Recon in Force at Bajerke Dumez

Chernarusian forces consisting of a T-80BV tank company, a motorized rifle company (BTR) will cross the river at Reya Gunde Bihar unopposed and attempt to probe into Bajerke Dumez, about four kilometers to the northwest.  the time is 0615 hrs, November 25th, 2013.

Arma 2 doesn't have very good engineering means save for mines, and most of the bridges will not take armor vehicles heavier than 23 tons, or the weight of a BRDM scout car.  The bridge at Reya Gunde Bihar doesn't seem to have that problem except at the verges where tanks tend to bounce as they move across.  About half the time the driver loses control and the tank flips, so when that happens, I have to restart the game.

Opposing the Chernarusian probe is an enemy tank company of 12 T-55/122s and a reinforced motorized rifle  platoon deployed in Bajerke Dumez.  Also, an MI-24 flight is on call, and a T-34 tanks company with a rifle company of dismounts is heading towards the town.

First the river crossing:

The first platoon crosses successfully.  Along with its attached tank platoon, the first platoon will deploy south of Bajerke Dumez to deal with any enemy counterattack that develops along that axis.

The first tank platoon prepares its crossing which it makes easily.

The second tank platoon and BTR rifle platoon have crossed and are deployed to the south of town.  Their orders will be to hit Bajerke Dumez from the south and east as the main force, my group hits them from the west.

The logistical tail of the unit consisting of a BMP ambulance, an ammo truck, a fuel and a repair truck, is the last to cross.

Forces deployed are advancing.  My armor group will attempt to gain a small group of buildings due west of Bajerke Dumez, as the tank platoon heads towards the west and northwest of town to cover against forces advancing towards town. The other two rifle squads will hit a BTR rifle squad deployed along the main road leading west from the town.

Contact!

An enemy BTR is burning as the two BTR squads advance of the position.  Meanwhile my own BTR is shot up, so we have to hoof it into town.  As we go, I can hear tank gunfire coming from the northwest.  No time to check on situations from any of the other units.

Another Chernarusian BTR is disabled by enemy gunfire, but infantry losses are nonexistent at the moment as my unit advances towards town.  To the west, a tank is firing on us, but it is under fire from the western armor group as well.  It won't survive its attack.

Two enemy MI-24 Hinds attack helicopters appear from the north, but are met with heavy gunfire from BTRs and tanks.  Both are shot down quickly.

We have taken the town.  I am perched in a second story building on the northern edge of town. An enemy rifle/tank group appears, guns blazing.  Tank counterfire destroys the tank and the rest of the infantry, also in town dispatched the enemy infantry quickly.

An enemy infantry/armor group appears about a kilometer away. I count five, but there are at least two more I can hear west of the position.

I turn to see if I can see the tanks I keep hearing heading for town and 30 seconds later two of the five tanks are ablaze as two others attempt to storm the town without their infantry.

Three more tanks are lit up, so the battle is over, basically won.

Once the town was ours, the enemy counterattack became an assault on a fixed position, with terribly over matched forces.
