Summary of Combat Operations, Apr. 10th to Apr 16th

From: Chernarus Coastal Operations Group
Subject: Weekly Summary of Combat Operations, from April 10th to April 16th, Inclusive.

Message begins:

The tempo of combat operations continued at a moderate place.

Chernarus Defense Forces and Naval Forces have engaged in five separate operations against rebel forces in three regions.

1) On Saturday a task group from 1st Bn 7th Motorized Rifle Brigade attacked west Granichak in an operation intended to clear the town of rebel forces, and to eliminate a rebel commander and his deputy.

The commander was killed early in the operation, so the operation was abandoned.

2) Also on Saturday, a task force assembled from 2nd Bn Chernarus 2nd Separate Naval Infantry Brigade attacked a locale in southern Virolahti in an operation intended to eliminate a criminal command group, lead by Enver Hoxja, and to clear the village of rebel troops.

In the initial encounter, 2nd squad was sent east to clear out a built up area when it encountered a technical.  Commander ordered three danger close naval artillery missions which eventually destroyed the technical.

Meanwhile, 3rd squad was sent north in an enveloping movement to act as a fire block against rebel rapid reaction troops. It too encountered a technical (M2 heavy machine gun) which was destroyed with naval artillery as well.

Command squad found a number of dead which were Russian MVD troops. Command squad pushed their way to the criminal command hideout and eliminated the remaining element of the command group.

Documents were seized from the eliminated second in command, which could prove to be valuable.

3rd squad was cut down to just three effectives, while 2nd squad and command squad each lost three. The task force was forced to retreat under heavy pressure from arriving enemy reinforcements, and was unable to complete its mission of destroying supply trucks.

3) On Sunday, a Chernarus private contractor special forces team went to Klamila in Virolahti to eliminate the criminal Ferid Murad and his assisstant Svetlana Kournikova.

The criminal command element also was holding and abusing some local civilians.

On the way to the area of operation, the team found a large mobile patrol and eliminated one by sniper fire.  Supporting aircraft likely destroyed the other three vehicles in the patrol.

Three team members were killed in the attack. But with only two members of the team remaining, the criminal command element was eliminated and the prisoners were released, and taken to safety.

Documents were also found on the person of Kournikova, which indicated the need to increase patrols in the area despite a manpower shortage.

4) On Tuesday, a battlegroup from 1st Bn, Chernarus 7th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade went to Kostensi to clear the village and to eliminate a command group which included Agim Gojcaj and Ersela Coba.

A total of three civilian prisoners were held by the criminal command group, said by brigade recon staff to be three of our intelligence operatives. All three were rescued, but one of the females were gunned down by rebel troops on her way to the safety of the command BTR.

Both elements of the criminal command group were eliminated, and important documents found on the person of Coba were seized by the commander.

The town was cleared on enemy troops, but the commander, in trying to destroy supply trucks was killed by a rebel machine gunner.

Intelligence documents indicated that the rebels plan to further consolidate their hold on western Leskovets.

Reports by the other commanders in the battlegroup suggest the attack crippled rebel forces in the area, despite our losses.

5) On Wednesday,a Chernarus private contractor special forces team attacked an  enemy compound just sound of the airfield near Krasnostav to eliminate a criminal command group, including Jovan Koncarevic and Igna Kournikova. The team had attacked the same compound only a week before, and eliminated another criminal command group.

Supported by two MI-24 attack helicopters, the team made the objective and eliminated the criminal command group along with their security detail, as well several technicals.

Documents seized from the person of Kournikova indicated local comanders are worred about increasing patrols in the area.

The team suffered no losses in the operation.

Weekly Summary of Operations, Jan. 30th, 2020

From: Chernarus Coastal Operations Group
Subject: Weekly Summary of Combat Operations,  from Jan. 24th to  Jan. 30th, 2020, Inclusive

Message begins:

The tempo of combat operations have maintained their levels from the week before..

Chernarus Defense Forces and Naval Forces have engaged in seven separate operations against rebel forces in six regions.

1) Friday at an undisclosed location in rebel territory, a raiding party from 3rd Bn Chernarus 2nd Naval Infantry brigade launched an airmobile raid on a rebel operated airfield. The mission ended when the commander was killed trying to clear out a building with computers.

2) Saturday a task force from 2nd Bn Chernarus 13th Separate Mountain Motorized Rifle Berigade was sent to Hodingen in Werferlingen to clear the town of rebel forces.  The mission was successful, but losses in infantry were severe with all three squads losing at least nine effectives. Rebel losses in vehicles were very heavy.

3) Saturday night a Chernarus private contractor special forces team was sent to northern Altis to locate and eliminate local crime lord Matija Depreradovich and a female assistant.  Matija Depreradovich along with his unidentified female assistant and a security element were successfully eliminated. The mission failed when three of the five operators in the team were killed, including the commander. The task to recover three friendly operatives failed.

4) Sunday an element of 2nd Bn Chernarus 10th Separate Tank Brigade was tasked with covering the evacuation of civilians from a location in Helanmaa.  The group lost 12 effectives and two BTRs in a traffic accident in the road march to the area of operations.  The operation was abandoned when the commander was killed by a rebel sniper.

5) Tuesday a truck borne rifle detachment from 1st Bn Chernarus 17th Separate Light Rifle Brigade was ordered to Zaitsevo in Beketov to clear the town of rebel troops.  The operation ended when the commander was killed during a firefight at the airfield near Shagrenovo.

6) Wednesday night a naval infantry amphibious detachment from 2nd Bn Chernarus 2nd Naval Infantry Brigade went to Selakano in Altis to conduct room clearing operations.  The operation was abandoned when the commander was killed, and because of high losses.

7) A mobile task force from 3rd Bn Chernarus 13th Separate Mountain Motorized Rifle Brigade was assigned the task of clearing the town of Golgen of rebel troops.  During the approximately hour-long road march, the task force encountered two separate enemy night time patrols, which accounted for the loss of the refuel truck and the repair truck.  The operation to clear Golgen was abandoned because of the death of the commander.

Briefing: Spy Craft in Altis

Spycraft in Altis:
Strategic Situation: A Chernarus naval spetsnaz team was sent to a location near Liminchori to locate and extract a small group of Russians who want to defect to the Americans.
The team was caught by rebel patrols and were forced to hole the defectors up in an abandoned building and call for help.
Command sent in two naval infantry squads to take over security, but they were ambushed. We lost one assault boat, and eight infantry.
The other boat was damaged beyond field repair. At the moment we have 12 marines unable to fight and without weapons, and we have to get them out.
Situation: Nearly every boat in our inventory is either under repair or currently in use in other operations, along with replacement naval infantry units. Your unit is the only one left, and you have one boat left to extract our forces and the Russian defectors.
The boat will make several runs to evacuate every one, and it will take time.
At the moment, the leader of the group is in cell phone contact with our commander and with the rebel commander trying to get the best deal.
Our performance so far is getting close to breaking the deal.
Intelligence is light. Naval intelligence seems to think that the enemy is facing much the same problems we have with losses and shifting of forces to the north in Molos.
What we do not know is if the enemy decides to shift forces enough to overrun our positons.
Expect attacks by rebel infantry and by local militia units, as well as lightly armed technicals. We do not know how many, but we do know they will keep hitting us until they, or we are done.
The naval spetsnaz team is currently dealing with rebel attacks on the defectors location. We have 12 friendly wounded which are unable to fight if the enemy decides to overrun our evacuation zone. One four man naval shore security detachment is at the landing site along with a lone beachmaster.
Operational Order: The wounded go first and in two trips. Next, the defectors along with the naval spetsnaz team.
Your squad will be last to go along with the beachmaster and the naval shore security team. How to stall and delay/deal with attacks are your problem. Command says that if negotiations are not concluded in our favor in 90 minutes, you are ordered to eliminate the defectors and evacuate.

Attack on Chernarus Intelligence Assets in Altis

Situation: Your Chernarusian Tier One teams are holding an intelligence asset, recently snatched from Russian rogue military at a safe house in northern Altis. It is 0430 hrs and you just received an anonymous phone call that your location is compromised and that a Russian GRU Spetsnaz team will be on you in a matter of minutes.
Intelligence: You only know of a Russian team coming to your location, but you also know the Russians often hire local emigres, and retired Russian and Chernarusian rebel operatives for additional tasks and security.
Friendly Forces: A six man team, part of team loud is at the guest house providing security while the asset is being interrogated. At the safe house itself, you have your four man team. A long range sniper is nearby.
A friendly militia unit is not too far away, but it is an open question whether they will come to your aid.
A friendly local militia group consisting of two technicals is based in Ioannina, plus you have a B-25 attack aircraft based at Stratis. As long as communications are not cut off or compromised, they should come to your aid.
Operational Orders: Your orders are to get the hell out of Dodge. The package at the guest house is the mission. She must be protected at all costs and delivered to Ioannina as soon as possible.

Spy Craft in Arma 3

Bear in mind I am trying to have as much fun as I can with this game, and at the same time, maintain some semblance of a serious air about it.
Four years ago the president of Chernarus, a former Soviet mobocracy, charged its intelligence service, the ChIS, with going overseas, finding and disrupting as much as possible all rebel international criminal activity. This activity along with financial help from, you know, rogue Russia military commanders, was fueling the insurgency in Chernarus.
Now, the asset was a new university graduate who took her first job as a translator for an unidentified NGO in Altis. Her folks and friends were so proud the day she took off for Altis to meet her new boss and co-workers.
Upon arrival, her new employers took her passport and trundled her off to a building somewhere in eastern Altis to begin her work translating.
When she realized she was working for the rebels, she tried every way could could to escape, to no avail. Her constant escape attempts caught the attention of a local criminal gang, friendly to the ChIS, who told the ChIS about her.
A decision was made to do a smash and grab, get her to the safe house, gain as much intelligence out of her as they could, then smuggle her out by cargo ship, through Pyrgos, which is a rebel stronghold. (I haven't put together the snatch scenario or the smuggling scenario yet, but it will be fun, I s'pect)
Now, the B-25 bomber is a dedicated attack aircraft brought to Altis to provide some light fire support. The plane is based in Stratis, about 120 kilometers south.
All the airfields/airports are monitored by criminal gangs, including the Chernarusian gang anyway. Stratis is occupied by NATO forces friendly to the Chernarusians and the only airfield available to them.
A 76 year old bird will get the attention of enemy forces in Altis, but in Stratis, with the cooperation of forces there, can be hidden from view, as an indicator that the ChIS operates in the region.
As for the sniper. He is armed with a .406 bolt action Cheytac rifle. As powerful as the rifle is, the shooter maybe gets one or two shots off before the Russians grid him and eliminate him. I have run the scenario about seven times and of those I heard his shots in two. He is like a speedbump in the scenario.
Of the seven, or so times I have run the scenario, I successfully got the asset out and to safety three times, the other four having been shot and killed.
In other words, a great scenario.
